The Marketplace

A guide covering how to setup and use your Classroom Marketplace

We’ve covered how to use your reward system and hand out points using Actions. Next, let’s explore how students can spend their points in your classroom marketplace.

The Marketplace is made up of items—rewards students can “buy” with the points they’ve earned.

Many teachers find it helpful to ask students what rewards they’re most excited about before setting up the Marketplace. That way, you’re stocking your Marketplace with items students will actually want to purchase.

Adding Items to Your Marketplace

To add an item to your marketplace, navigate to the “Marketplace” tab from your class:

Next, click on the “Create Item” button from the item grid:

In the pop-up, provide a name and cost for your item. For example, you could create an item called “Late Homework Pass” for 100 points.

Selling an Item

Now that you’ve added an item to your marketplace, it’s time to sell items to your students.

Tap on the item that you want to sell from your Marketplace:

In the pop-up, select the students that you want to sell the item to, then click the “Sell Item” button.

We automatically take care of all the accounting for you. Items that students purchase will roll up into your Classroom Stats in the same way that positive and negative actions do.

Advanced Options

There are two advanced settings for Items in your marketplace:

  1. Request To Buy
  1. Instant Purchase

These features are accessed from the dropdown section when adding a new item:

Request To Buy enables students in your class to request items from you, and we will notify you via email and in-app notifications. You then simply have to approve the purchase. You can learn more about how students request to buy items in our Student Guide (link)

Instant Purchase allows your students to purchase items instantly with no approval first. This is the most hands off way to manage your marketplace

Once your Marketplace is set up, you can keep it fresh by adding new items over time and adjusting prices based on what motivates your students. This helps the point system stay meaningful—and keeps students excited to earn and spend points.
